Massage For People With Disabilities

Updated: May 18, 2022

Throughout my career I've cared for adults and children with additional needs. Some receive complex care and end of life care due to their substantial health issues. They have benefited greatly from regular massage therapy treatments and aromatherapy. My sessions have helped calm their minds and ease any pains they may be suffering from. They know that they can fully relax, with nothing expected of them, it's a really special session. One that they very much enjoy and look forward to, time and time again. Please get in touch if you or someone you know would benefit from having regular holistic therapy sessions with Blooming Balm Therapies.

So How Can Massage Therapy Help With Disabilities?

Massage therapy and aromatherapy are fantastic treatments which can help people with: Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, wheel chair users and many other developmental & physical disabilities.

While many people enjoy my mobile massage service as a luxury, I also have many clients who use my services out of necessity in order to achieve a better quality of life, either for themselves or for a loved one. This includes individuals who are disabled and home bound.

My Treatments Help With:

  • Alleviate aches and pains

  • Calms down any tremors and muscular spasms

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Increase circulation & lymph drainage

  • Bring about a feeling of calm & relaxation

  • Helps with anxiety and depression

  • Improves rate of motion & flexibility

  • Immune booster

  • Improve quality of sleep

Massage therapy & Physical Disabilities

Many physical disabilities have symptoms such as tremors, rigidity of muscles and uncoordinated movement. As well as pain and stiffness of muscles throughout the body.

Similarly, those confined to a wheelchair may suffer from:
  • Atrophied muscle tone

  • Skin breakdown & bed sores

  • Stiff, sore muscles

  • Joint pain

  • Oedema

  • Poor circulation

  • Muscle spasms

Many of these conditions, may result in significant pain over time, causing more problems as time goes on.

Massage can significantly improve the stiffness of muscles, which results in improved flexibility and range of movement. This can make such a difference in how the client can move & feel on a daily basis.

Massage also improves circulation and stimulates the skin, keeping it supple and helping to reduce the onset of bed sores. It improves lymph drainage, strengthening the body's ability to better fight infection and reduces any swelling they may be suffering from due to oedema.

It goes without saying that these physical issues can really affect peoples mental well-being as well as their loved ones.

Their world becomes one requiring help with personal care, taking regular medication & having to complete physio stretches on a daily basis. Feeling like they're trapped within ground-hog day!

Well massage therapy can really help with peoples mental health, people who are really going through some difficult issues. Having some time in the week just for them to fully relax & re-balance, with nothing expected of them! It's extremely valuable & helps them feel more human once again, with calming music & gorgeous aromas coming from the essential oils, blended by myself.

I offer a range of treatments for people with disabilities, ranging from Aromatherapy massage to Swedish massage. All in the comfort of their own home, whether it's a care home or retirement village I travel to them enabling them to simply relax!

I also offer a 'carers afternoon' package. Which includes a gorgeous massage for any one suffering from a disability and their wonderful carer. Both benefiting from the fabulous effects of a massage & creating new memories together. It also includes 2 x bespoke aromatherapy pulse point rollers, enabling them to breathe in a wonderful calming aroma in times of stress.
